Comox Valley Water Treatment Project
Did you know that a new water treatment plant for the Comox Valley water system is under development? Elected officials are taking a leadership role and have directed CVRD staff to move forward with the design of a new filtration plant that will meet the province’s surface water treatment requirements and eliminate turbidity related boil water notices in the future.
|Why do we need a new water treatment plant?|
Construction of the water treatment plant will begin in 2018, which will be fully operational by 2020. The total cost of upgrading our water system is estimated around $106 million. Provincial and federal grants will help offset these costs. Grant funding totaling 83% of the costs for the first two phases of the project has already been achieved.
The new Water Treatment Plant is a large project with much planning required. Engineering work on the indicative design of the plant is underway and staff are working to obtain environmental approvals and negotiate water use agreements.
